Our trip to Melbourne would not have been complete without dining at Chin Chin, a very, very popular Thai Fusion restaurant on Flinders Lane. Booking wasn't available for smaller groups (for just the two of us), and despite attempting to get there early, the wait was 2 hours having arrived at 6pm. After walking around the block, we decided to come back and wait at their bar instead. Sitting shoulder to shoulder, we noticed the complete food menu on the little table in front of us. We asked the waitress if we could order from the main menu while at the bar, and she said 'of course!', as long as we were ok to eat here. What a happy surprise! I ran to reception to tell them to cancel our table in their dining area, and we ate at the bar instead. The Boy's friend highly recommended that we go with their 'Feed Me' menu since it was our first visit. There are 2 Feed Me options to choose from (for our little group of 2), and without knowing what dishes are included with which, we went with The Classics, which offers a selection of Chin Chin's favourite dishes. Can't go wrong with that! The first dish that came out was the Kingfish Sashimi with lime, chilli, coconut and Thai basil, and oh my goodness, it was so amazing. The kingfish was so tender and the flavours in the dressing blew us away. An incredible start to our surprise menu. Next up were stir fried prawns with egg noodle, garlic chive and hellfire chilli oil, and this too was delicious! To be honest, this entire review would just be me saying everything was delicious, because that's really how it was. The other dishes we had were the butter chicken curry with yogurt and green chilli, the spicy chicken larb with mint, lemongrass and roasted rice, the crispy barramundi and green apple salad with caramelised pork, peanuts and chilli, the barbecued cauliflower with curry spiced coconut cream, curry leaf and chilli, and for dessert, the coconut and banana parfait with raspberry sorbet. Everything we had was incredible; the best meal we had in our 3 days in Melbourne. Sitting at the bar to have this meal wasn't bad either.
