#42 | NEW SHANGHAI

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Xiao Long Bao
Sautéed string beans with dried shrimp
Pan fried pork buns
Braised beef brisket and tendon noodle soup

Ashfield is filled with restaurants serving Shanghai food, and funnily enough they all seem to have the word 'Shanghai' in their name. New Shanghai is one of the more popular ones there; the restaurant is always packed with people every time we come. The xiao long bao, which are steamed pork dumplings, is a must try. Juicy little balls of happiness with a delicious soup inside, and they taste even more amazing when dipped into a sauce made with 3 parts vinegar and 1 part soy. The string beans and pan fried pork buns were also very good. The pork buns also has soup in it, so be very careful when eating it - it will burn! We were actually really looking forward to the noodle soup. It was a chilly night, so some hearty, warm soup would have been nice. The noodles and beef were good, but unfortunately the broth lacked depth of flavour and tasted super watered down. Still had a good night and an excellent meal at New Shanghai.
