MYSORE, INDIA
We took a day trip out to Mysore on one of our weekends - which is about a 3 hour drive from Bangalore. We really left the day up to our driver - who took us to St Philomena's Cathedral and then to Mysore Palace. Mysore Palace was magnificently grand with colourful detailed carvings all throughout the interior. We were allowed to take photos of the exterior, but photography within was prohibited - so you just have to be there in person to see this palace in all it's beauty and glory. Before leaving Mysore, our driver dropped us off for lunch at Hotel Sandesh The Prince, where we had the most amazing mutton biryani and chicken curry, combined with the fluffiest roti I've ever had. Yum! Both dishes were recommended by the wonderful waiter there, so don't be afraid to just ask for a recommendation if you really don't know what to order.
Mysore Palace (and our yummy lunch at Hotel Sandesh The Prince) made Mysore city a worthwhile visit. Due to time constraints, we really didn't have the chance to see any more than that, but it was still a great day trip out of Bangalore.
