#06 | INCREDIBLE INDIA: THE TAJ

AGRA, INDIA

What excited me most about my Bangalore work trip was having the opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal. It was a long way away from where I would be mainly situated, but I just had to make it happen. We flew out of Bangalore on a Friday afternoon to Delhi. Our driver picked us up from the airport, and we drove to Agra. It was a horrible 6 hours on the road. There was so much traffic! We arrived after midnight, and went straight to bed as our visit to the Taj was going to be very early in the morning.

The best times to visit the Taj would be during sunset or sunrise. The way the sun hits that gorgeous white marble mausoleum is just incredible. You'll also be able to avoid some of the heat at this time. The entry fee for foreigners was 750 Rupees, and with this, guests were also given a bottle of water and a pair of socks (to be worn over shoes when walking inside the Taj). Being one of the World's Wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site makes this place a major tourist attraction and always super busy. The Taj was breathtakingly beautiful with it's romantic history, geometric proportions and lively display of moods through its changing tints and shades. It was magical here.

We began our travel back to Delhi the next morning. The drive from Agra to Delhi was much better - only 3-4 hours long. We caught a flight back to Bangalore to finish off our last week of work before returning home to Sydney. I'm just so glad we were able to see the Taj before leaving India.
