PENANG, MALAYSIA
Kek Lok Si is a Buddhist temple situated on top of a hill at Air Itam. It is considered the largest in Southeast Asia and one of the most famous in Penang. Inside the grounds and within the pagodas and temple halls are millions of images of buddha and many beautiful carvings, sculptures and murals. The entire complex was also very colourful and heavily decorated with lanterns and ribbons. My favourite part of the visit were the wishing ribbons. From the many wishes available, I chose "constant happiness" to wish upon my family and friends, personalised it with their names and mine, and hung it up. It was a really nice touch to our temple visit, and the people back home loved the thought when I showed them a picture of it. To get to Kek Lok Si we took the public bus from George Town, which was where we stayed, and it was about 30 minutes on the road before we arrived at a market area at Air Itam. From here, follow the signs to walk to the temple (it won't take long at all).
