#187 | ROSE ST BREWERY

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND

Haggis, Neeps & Tatties
Pork & Haggis Sausages
Steak and Nicholson's Pale Ale Pie

On our first day in Edinburgh, we took a walk around the area nearby after checking into our Airbnb, and went to look for a place for dinner. We decided with Rose St Brewery which is a traditional and charming pub in Edinburgh's New Town. For starters, we shared a plate of haggis which is a traditional Scottish dish of mutton and oatmeal with aromatic mixed spices, and it was served with mashed swede, potatoes and gravy. We were a little nervous about this dish because we weren't sure whether we'd enjoy the mix of minced up liver, lungs and heart, but it was actually really tasty! So glad we gave it a go. For mains, we had the pork and haggis sausages on a bed of mashed potatoes, gravy and some onion rings. We love sausages and we love mashed potatoes, so this dish definitely made us happy. Rose St Brewery also has a range of pies on their menu. We went with a slow-cooked beef in pale ale pie which came with a side of mashed potatoes, seasonal greens, glazed carrots and gravy. We had lots of mashed potatoes that night haha. Everything here was super tasty and really hearty. We had a great first night in Edinburgh!
