#189 | SCOTTISH FOOD AT WHISKI BAR & RESTAURANT

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND

Smoked Salmon
Cullen Skink
Fish & Chips
Venison Rump, Port & Thyme Sauce

Our favourite meal in Edinburgh was from the Whiski Bar & Restaurant. They have amazing food at generous portions, and the atmosphere was just great. There were lots of buzz and chatter which is how we like our pubs. We had 2 starters. One was the smoked salmon with dill and caper sauce, crème fraîche, rocket and capers on artisan bread, and the other was cullen skink, which is a traditional Scottish soup made with Scottish smoked haddock in a creamy broth. In all honesty, while the smoked salmon was tasty, you're not really missing out on much if you don't order this - it's just cold smoked salmon. What you NEED to order though, is the Cullen Skink. This soup was amazing! Super hearty and really, really tasty. If only it was available in a bigger serving! We enjoyed it so much that we were pretty much fighting for the last spoonful. Again, don't miss trying this! Now, onto our mains. When our dishes came out, we got nervous because they were so large! We said to ourselves that if only we knew how big it was, we wouldn't have gotten starters...but that cullen skink was freaking amazing. We would not trade that for anything else haha. We had the freshly battered Scottish haddock with seasoned chips, peas and chunky tartare sauce. The fish was so fresh! We also had the Scottish rump of venison with herb crushed potatoes and port and thyme sauce. The venison was pretty good as well. It was moist and tender and just very meaty. We were so full at the end of all that and sat for a little while longer because we couldn't move just yet with all that good food in our bellies. Make the visit to Whiski Bar & Restaurant when you're in Edinburgh - you won't regret it!
