#190 | MAMAK

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Roti Canai
Kari Ayam
Ayam Goreng
Nasi Goreng

Mamak is a very popular Malaysian restaurant in Sydney. There's always a line of people waiting outside for a table during peak dining hours. We made sure to come a little bit before the dinner rush right after work, and lucky for us, we didn't have to wait too long. We got a few things to share. First up was the Roti Canai. The roti here is amazing! Fluffy, buttery and flaky, and you can see them making it through the window outside the restaurant, which is really cool. We opted for the original roti with 2 curry dips and a spicy sambal sauce. Delicious! The next dish we had was the Kari Ayam, a classic chicken curry cooked with ground spices and chunky potatoes. A tasty dish. We also sampled the Malaysian-style fried chicken and finished off with the Nasi Goreng which is Malaysian fried rice with spicy sambal, eggs, prawns, French beans, assorted vegetables, and topped with fried shallots. The chicken was juicy and crispy, and very flavoursome. The Nasi Goreng also had lots of great flavours and textures. Hands down our favourite that evening was the roti. Whilst everything we had was tasty, it was the roti that blew our mind. We'd definitely come back just for that, and perhaps try a few other items on their menu.
