#211 | WHAT WE ATE IN PARIS

The most exciting part about travelling for us is the food! Here is a snapshot of what we ate in Paris and where we got it from. Looking back, we probably had way too many sweet treats, but oh well, when in Paris!

HOT CHOCOLATE

Angelina is a popular tea room well known for its hot chocolate. While it was quite expensive, we decided that it was okay to treat ourselves after a morning walk around the Tuileries. I thought I'd really enjoy it, but this is like no other hot chocolate I've had before. The hot chocolate at Angelina was literally just hot chocolate! Nothing else. It was so thick, creamy and just really decadent. I'm more use to hot chocolate with a little bit of milk so that it's actually more drinkable. While it was delicious, it was challenging to have that much chocolate. But this is just my personal take on it. There were 2 ladies in the table next to us who really enjoyed their cup hot chocolate, so don't let my review discourage you from trying it!

GELATO AND SORBET

We had a fruit sorbet from Berthillon which was refreshing and delicious, even on a not so warm day. We also had a gelato from Amorino, mainly because it was so pretty. Fortunately, it was tasty too!

STEAK FRITES

Traditional steak frites at Le Relais de l'Entrecote were a must on our list, and at Le Relais de l'Entrecote, ordering is simple because there is only one thing on their menu. So as soon as you sit down, the only question you'd be asked it "how do you like your steak?" The waitresses are all in black dresses and a white apron (love it), and while you wait for your steak to arrive, you'll be starting with a complimentary salad and bread.

FALAFEL

Alright, falafels in Paris? Is it really worth trying? Well, at L'as du Fallafel it is. It most definitely is worth trying. It's the least French meal you could have, but as it was mentioned in so many blogs that we just had to give this place a go; and it was surprisingly super good! Cheap, tasty and filling. A little messy to eat, but so worth it. Find yourself a park bench and dig in!

ONION SOUP AND ESCARGOTS

I don't think anything screams 'French' as much as the classic onion soup and escargots. We tried ours at Au Père Louis, a casual wine bar and restaurant near the Luxembourg Gardens. If you love cheese and onion, this soup will be right up your alley. Don't be afraid of escargots. They've got a bit of a chew to it and tastes just like what it's cooked in - garlic butter!

CRÊPE

I had wanted to try a savoury crepe, but the restaurant I wanted to go to was closed on the day. On our walk about in Montmarte, we passed a place that did crepes so I grabbed a sweet one to go. Petit Comptoir is a restaurant, but they have an area right at the front where they'll make them fresh to order. I got a simple crepe with some sugar in it.

ÉCLAIRS

There are so many sweet treats in Paris, and éclairs are one of them - a pastry made with choux dough, filled with cream and topped with icing. We got some fancy ones from L'Éclair de Génie, and they were delicious!

PASTRIES

We had so much pastry and bready goodness in our few days in Paris, and Le Grenier à Pain is a great place to try a whole variety of them. Here we had their flaky croissants, pistachio escargot, pain au chocolat, traditional baguette and a cheese and bacon filled bread roll. Because we bought so much, and was leaving Paris the next day, we took it back to our airbnb to have for dinner, along with the cheese, meats and wine that we picked up at the supermarket the day before. Delicious!
