The Winery has always had a soft spot in my heart. My friend brought me here for the first time for some drinks after having dinner at Xage. I didn't use to enjoy going to a bar, but there was a nice casual vibe with The Winery, and the fairy lights flickering in the outer area made the place kind of magical. Since that night, I've been back on a number of occasions.
Now, what have we tried?
Chicker Liver Parfait with green apple chutney, pickles and toast
Spiced Squid with chilli mayo and lemon
Both these dishes were ah-mazing! The chicken liver was particularly surprising. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but it was delicious. The parfait was silky smooth and the apple chutney and pickles went great with it. I've had squid before that was either too tough and rubbery to chew through, or ones that I almost choked on. The squid here was so good. It was tender, well-flavoured, and just very fresh-tasting.
Steak Frites with cafe de paris butter and red wine jus
Spanner Crab Pasta with casarecce, chilli, garlic and basil
Pork Cutlet with heirloom carrots, cavolo nero, pine nuts and salsa verde
Duck Breast with beetroot sorrel, smoked hazelnut and balsamic
The stand out main was the pasta. I love pasta. It's my default go-to food whenever I have no idea what to have for lunch. The spanner crab pasta however, brought my love to the next level. It was unbelievably delicious. They've slightly changed the menu since my last visit and the spanner crab pasta wasn't on there anymore. There was a however, a clam pasta now on the menu, which I haven't tried yet, but can only hope that it is just as great.
SYDNEY, AUSTRLIA
Hot Chocolate Walnut Brownie with salted caramel ice cream and almond praline
Lemon Custard with shortbread, vanilla ice cream, basil and flowers
The Winery is a really nice place to be at. Great with friends, a large party, or for an intimate night out with the loved one.
