#166 | CAFE ORATNEK

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Katsu Sandwich
Baby Squid Pasta
Chips with Aonori

Cafe Oratnek is a charming cafe within what looks to be a terrace-turned-restuarant at Redfern, with both internal and external seating areas. We came for an early lunch to try their Japanese-inspired cafe food, before heading into the city for a movie. We had the pasta with chilli, baby squid, flowered asian greens, bamboo shots, lotus chips and grana padano, and a 200g pork fillet katsu sandwich, with cabbage, japanese bbq sauce and sweet mustard - crust off, of course. We also shared a bowl of chips with aonori, which is powdered seaweed, pink salt and tomato sauce on the side. The pasta was very unique, and definitely very Japanese inspired. The katsu sandwich was juicy, moist and fun to eat. Cafes these days do really good chips, and this place was no exception. The aonori gave it a tiny bit more flavour and aroma, and the chips were fried to perfection.
