MUNICH, GERMANY
How our entire Europe trip all started was from a conversation my partner had with his brother, who told us he had booked a trip for later that year, and of all the places they planned to visit, Munich was also included. There were no plans for us to do Europe at all at that time, but it's been the two brothers dream to one day go to Oktoberfest together, so we bit the bullet and booked our flights as well. Oktoberfest was incredible. It's nothing like what I've seen or experienced before. It's a huge show-ground filled with rides, games, street food, beer tents and a lot of happy people. We came one evening to check out the event and see if we could get into a beer tent, but at the time we arrived, most were already at capacity. We came again a few days later, which was when we were meeting up with more people, and we made sure to get there early! Like, 9am early. And once our group arrived, we stayed in the Lowenbrau tent the entire time. I had wanted to check out another tent or 2, but my partner was happy where we were - we had a table, we were enjoying the food and drinks, and most importantly, we were having fun, so why not just stay? It was a good decision made. I wore a dirndl and he had on a pair of lederhosen, both of which we picked up from a second-hand store in Munich a few days earlier. Now let's quickly talk about what we ate in the tent. We of course, had some pork knuckles and roast chicken, but we also got some desserts. We had the Bavarian apple strudel with vanilla sauce, which was yum, and we also tried something called a dampfnudel, which was described on the menu as a yeast dumpling with vanilla sauce. Unsure of what it was when we ordered it, but when it arrived and we tasted it, we were pretty glad we got it. It was basically soft white bread in a whole heap of vanilla sauce. Very simple, but also very tasty. It was such a fun day. We loved it so much. There would be no way we'd come back to Munich, at any other time of the year, except for Oktoberfest season.
