#180 | ESKA

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

Potatoes in Ash
Roasted Lamb
Pancake Pie 'Trhanec'

I found out about Eksa while reading up on some Prague food blogs, and am so glad we tried this place out during our visit! We came for a late lunch on our last day in Prague. After being seated, we were given some water and complimentary homemade bread with a side of  herbed butter. We always get excited when bread is offered as a starter, and the bread here is really good; and when coupled with that slightly salted butter, it was absolute heaven! For our meals, we ordered the infamous potatoes in ash soup with smoked fish, dried egg yolk and kefir, and the pasta with roasted lamb, savoy, cabbage and wild garlic. My goodness that soup was delicious! It was thick, hearty, tasty and the potatoes were scrumptious. When eating out, the boy and I never order the same thing. We always share everything, and I love that we do this. But for the first time, we both wished we each had our own bowl of this! It was that good. Moving on to the pasta. Now this was a tasty dish too, but I do have a small complaint - it was too salty. The boy didn't mind it because the sauce was really nice, but I thought there was just a little too salty to enjoy. The lamb was very tender though, and the dish does have great flavour. Finally, for dessert, we shared the pancake pie 'trhanec'. There were only 2 dessert items on the menu, with the other being gelato. Unsure of what the pancake pie was, but having had such delicious food, we had a good feeling Eska couldn't go wrong and decided to give it a go. So, this was actually shredded pancake (like the German kaiserchmarrn) with sliced plums, sage, curd cheese and some sweet syrup. Again, this was delicious! We had a really great time and great meal at Eska, and are super glad that we decided to try this place out!
