PARIS, FRANCE
Tapenade
Escargots
Traditional onion soup
Roast chicken
Grilled rib eye
Wanting a French dinner, we came to Au Père Louis, a wine bar and restaurant located nearby the Luxembourg Gardens. The night began with complimentary tapenade, which is pureed olives, capers and anchovies with some toasted bread. For starters, we had the traditional onion soup and the burgundy snails with garlic butter. This is going to sound silly, but I didn't realise how much onion and cheese there was going to be in the soup! There were pieces of onion in each spoonful. Onion lovers would definitely enjoy it! Moving on to the escargots. I would describe its texture as being very similar to squid; a little chewy and a little firm. In terms of taste, the escargots were swimming in a heavy garlic butter sauce, so that's really the dominant flavour there. Interesting, and not bad at all. For mains we had the roast chicken and mash potatoes, and the grilled rib eye steak with béarnaise sauce and homemade fries. Both were decent. Au Père Louis is a quaint little bistro with great service and good food. When we were there, it was filled with both travellers and locals.
