#223 | BUILDING A HOME - BUILD UPDATE #1

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

We settled on our block of land in January 2020 and started visiting display homes not long after. Unlike most parcels of land in newly developed areas, which are deep and narrow, ours is actually wide. Our block of land is around 18m by 25m, which made home design searching fairly simple. As it's more common now to get narrower and deeper blocks of land, lots of home designs were catered to this, so it made deciding on our design easy because there was only a handful of designs to choose from haha. We went with something simple, and one that would make good use of the shape of our lot. It's a double storey home with the kitchen, dining and family area in one open space. Downstairs, we will also have a home theatre. We are building with Clarendon Homes and so far, the service and experience has been almost faultless. The only thing we need now before we can look to actually commence build plans is Council approval, and this has taken the most amount of time. The application has been with them for 10 weeks now, and they've only just picked it up for review. We've been told they should be ready to finalise the assessment next week, so fingers crossed there will be no further delays.

This is how we've been progressing so far:

Tender Presentation - 19 Feb 2020
Contract Presentation and Signing - 11 March 2020
LifeStyle Studio Consultation - 31 March 2020
Electrical/Security/Wardrobe/Tiles Consultation - 22 April 2020

Basically, the time between April and June has just been a long waiting game. The coronavirus pandemic was noted to have slowed down the turnaround time with Council. However, as the latest update from them was positive, hopefully we'll be able to move forward soon.
