#225 | DE BLAUWE HOLLANDER

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS

Bitter Garnish
Stamppot
Lamb Shank

Wanting to of course try out some authentic Dutch cuisine during our visit to Amsterdam, we found De Blauwe Hollander which was a restaurant not far from where we stayed. Starting off, we had the bitter garnish which is a mix plate of different of fried Dutch snacks. There were bitterballens with dijon mustard, which are breaded and fried meatballs, some cheese sticks, vegetarian croquettes and mini frikandels which are skinless sausages. These were fun snacks to try and would definitely be a great drinking accompaniment. For mains, we had the stamppot, which is a Dutch dish of mixed mashed potatoes and vegetables. There were different varieties, or 'toppings' if you like, to choose from. We had ours with sauerkraut and sausage. Very hearty and very delicious. We also tried the lamb shanks, which was a special on the night we dined. The lamb was tender and came in a very tasty stew-like base made of mixed vegetables. We were so full by the end of our meal that we unfortunately had no room for dessert. The weather was a little cooler when we visited Amsterdam, so this meal was just perfection to have.
